About This Training (Description, Materials Needed, Assessment, Evaluations)
EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION AND REPROCESSING (EMDR)
5 Day In Person Training and 10 Consultation Calls
EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. Ongoing research supports positive clinical outcomes showing EMDR therapy as a helpful treatment for disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences (Maxfield, 2019). EMDR therapy has even been superior to Prozac in trauma treatment (Van der Kolk et al., 2007). Shapiro and Forrest (2016) share that more than 7 million people have been treated successfully by 110,000 therapists in 130 countries since 2016.
The American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the U.K. National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs/Dept. of Defense, The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and the World Health Organization among many other national and international organizations recognize EMDR therapy as an effective treatment. More specific information on treatment guidelines can be found on our EMDR Treatment Guidelines page.

Learner Assessment
As part of this training, you are required to answer "learner assessment" questions. While there is no specific passing grade or requirement, it is important to respond to each question to the best of your ability. This assessment will likely enhance your understanding of key areas and help identify areas of competence as well as the need for additional support.
If you have any further questions or need additional clarification regarding the learner assessment questions, please feel free to ask.
EMDRIA Training Survey
You are invited to take EMDRIA's survey regarding your training experience. This is a general survey about EMDR basic training and will allow you to provide direct feedback to EMDRIA. Please visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/EMDRiatrainingsurvey to access the survey.
Basic Training Evaluations
Upon completion of the instructional portion of this training, you will be required to complete an evaluation regarding your experience. This evaluation will cover aspects such as the quality of instruction, knowledge and expertise of trainers, effectiveness of the assisting faculty, usefulness of the training, and fulfillment of educational objectives. Your feedback will be valuable in adjusting and improving the overall training experience for future trainees.

Correspondence from Training Organization: Central Florida EMDR Training regularly sends correspondence about the training, including an email confirmation at registration and several emails leading up to each training. The emails presently come from CE-GO once you register and are in the system. Additionally, Central Florida EMDR Training may send out emails from sandrabstanfordcounseling@gmail.com. If you are not receiving these emails, you are required to check your spam folder as correspondence from new organizations often ends up there. Professionalism: Participants must show up on time and be fully present for each session, acting in a professional manner. Staying present for online learning can come with its unique set of challenges, and you agree to take full responsibility for addressing your needs in grounding and self-care during the training. You agree to refrain from all alcohol and illicit drug use during the training and agree to speak with your faculty member or an assistant if you anticipate that your impairment due to prescribed medications might pose a problem during the training. The faculty and staff reserve the right to remove trainees at any time if the trainee creates an unsafe or unprofessional environment for you or for other trainees, or for any other reason, at their sole discretion.
Confidentiality: There is no client relationship or other privilege that would create a duty rising to the level of clinical confidentiality in this training setting; however, you are expected to respect the confidentiality of other trainees in the group, and your trainer will explain the importance of confidentiality. Trainees who observe a problem with another trainee are expected to bring the problem to the lead trainer or other training staff. Similarly, if a staff member observes an issue with professionalism, they reserve the right to discuss that issue with the lead trainer.
Preparedness for Doing Your Own Work: Throughout the training, you will be expected to participate in a working practicum experience in the role of therapist, client, and observer. If you have received a major mental health diagnosis (past or present), you acknowledge that you are taking this training and engaging in this practicum at your own risk and agree to alert faculty or training staff before or during the training if any complications arise. You acknowledge that everyone taking part in the practicum experience is new to EMDR therapy and agree to keep the space as safe as possible for all involved. If any problems arise, you agree to address them with faculty or staff members.
Email sandrabstanfordcounseling@gmail.com with any questions or concerns. After registering for this course, you will receive an email from CE-GO which will ask you to complete your registration and give you access to the course portal.

If, during the training, a need for accommodation arises, you are expected to contact your instructor and/or practicum assistant immediately and we will discuss the best possible solution.
Assumption of Risk: As with all situations, there are sometimes unknown individual risks and circumstances that may arise and cannot be foreseen, which can influence or reduce results. You understand that any mention of suggestions or recommendations during this training is to be taken at your own risk, with no liability on EMDRIA and Central Florida EMDR Training. You acknowledge that there is a rare chance of an unforeseen adverse response or reaction, and you agree to assume all risks.
Consultation: The EMDRIA-required 10 consultation hours are not included in the cost of training and must be scheduled on your own time outside of the hours of the training advertised here. We structure our program so that you can work with any of our approved consultants or consultants in training for your consultation hours to supplement the online training. You have ONE YEAR (12 months) from the time that you begin this training to complete all the requirements, including the 10 hours of supplementary consultation that are required for you to receive your Certificate of Training in EMDR Therapy from Central Florida EMDR Training. Exceptions can be granted only in extreme circumstances (e.g., a humanitarian crisis, illness, or injury).
Certificate of Completion: Trainees who begin the EMDR basic training must complete the entire training within 12 months from their initial start date. A “Certificate of Completion” from Central Florida EMDR Training will be provided when training requirements are completed.
To receive an EMDR Training “Certificate of Completion,” all training requirements must be completed through Central Florida EMDR Training as a training package through the trainer, or EMDRIA Approved Consultant assigned and approved by Central Florida EMDR Training.
Central Florida EMDR Training must:
• Confirm attendance and completion of EMDR 5 Day Training
• Confirm attendance and completion 10 hours of Group Consultation work.
• “Certificate of Completion” and credit hours will only be provided for full participation and completion of EMDR Training package for which the participant is registered. “Certificate of Completion” and credit hours will not be provided for participants that cancel, partially attend, “No Shows,” or for those that do not complete the entire training package. Additional fees will apply for replacement copies of Certificates.
Please note, an EMDR Training “Certificate of Completion” is not the same as being an EMDRIA Approved “Certified EMDR Therapist.” That requires additional consultations hours, and additional credits from EMDRIA Advanced Training.
